BUT not as slim as mac.
The Asus Vivobook 14 x412fa looks very
stunning and gives a very premium feeling.
Whole body of the Asus Vivobook 14 is made of high quality
plastic and throughout 60 days of use, I didn’t find any kind of flex in the
main body and keyboard area.
I chose to buy a silver colour because it was the only color
available but it looks premium, actually there are two more colors available
peacock blue and slate grey color.
Display
Asus Vivobook 14 has, 14 inch
backlit Full HD display with resolutions of 1980x1080 pixels with aspect ratio
of 16:9. This display comes with 87% screen to body ratio.
Although, It is an anti-glare display so I won’t feel eye
irritation or eye strain after using it for the whole day.
Display of the Asus Vivobook 14 appears to be very large thanks
to ultra thin nano edge bazels.
I didn’t find any other laptop with such kind of thin bezels. While top bazels are slightly thinner than rest to accommodate small webcams with unprotected glass.
But, I am quite unsatisfied with the viewing angle of this
display. If you look straight then the display looks perfectly fine but when it
comes different angle display looks quite sluggish.
Keyboard
Asus Vivobook 14 comes with a full size chiclet keyboard with
three levels of backlit for enhancing typing speed at night.
Throughout the use I didn't find any kind of problem with this
keyboard.
Infact, this laptop lifts the keyboard up to 2 degrees which is
very helpful for writing long articles.
Although the screen can tilt over 135 degrees but which again
disrupts the viewing angle at the extreme.
I feel keys are a bit larger than normal ones and are fully
responsive as well.
The keyboard looks sturdy and I don’t find any flex while
rigorous typing.
Battery
Asus vivobook 14 comes with a 2cell lithium ion battery.
Asus claims that it will stand 7 hours on full charge.
But as I am using it will stand upto 5 hours with lowest
brightness and battery saver mode that is quite unexpected from Asus.
Although the 45W AC power adapter charges the laptop pretty
well. In just 45 minutes it can charge upto 60% battery, but to fully charge
from 0 to 100% it takes almost 2 hours.
This laptop comes with a very compact charger which makes it easy to carry wherever you go.
Performance
This laptop comes with the Intel i3 8 generation and 512 SSD. I
bought this laptop while considering the SSD at this price point.
In 34000Rs, I got a slim lightweight laptop with faster SSD
support that is what I was looking for.
I recommend you to go with an SSD because it works way faster
than the ordinary HDD laptop.
This laptop is preloaded with a 64bit windows 10 operating
system, But it does not come with MS Office.
This laptop reboot faster than my smartphone and works buttery
soft with normal and medium use.
I also noticed that it got very hot at the left side of the
keyboard. Sometimes I am not able to hold it in my lap due to the hot surface.
Sound
Asus Vivobook 14 comes with Asus' own sonic master sound system.
This sound is slightly poor while using video but if you play music through a
music player then the sound is fairly loud and clear.
Trackpad
Asus Vivobook 14 has quite a large trackpad with inbuilt
fingerprint sensor present at the upper right corner of the trackpad.
This trackpad feels smooth and highly responsive. Asus did a
great job with the trackpad, so I don’t have any complaints regarding the same.
The inbuilt fingerprint on the touchpad is super fast and
responsive. With just a light touch it responds very quickly.
Connectivity slots
Asus vivobook 14 has 1 HDMI port, 2 USB ports, 1 Type-C slots
and 3.5mm jack for audio connectivity.
It doesn't have a CD drive which makes it lighter, nowadays
nobody uses a CD drive. But those who want a CD drive then this laptop is not
built for those people.
Vivobook 14 also has a micro SD card slot over full size SD
card, I personally like micro SD card slot but this choice may vary person to
person.
AND last but not least it had the Kensington lock slot. With the
help of kensington lock you can securely tie up your laptop with any stationary
fixed object that will avoid chances of stealing your laptop from theft.
Webcam
Asus Vivobook 14 comes with a HD 720p webcam without privacy
shutter.
As we all don’t expect something huge from every webcam present
in a laptop.
This webcam is also pretty average, not something ahhaaaa…
But for normal use it is fair.
Technical specification
My verdict
The Asus Vivobook 14 X412FA is quite an amazing laptop while
considering the price point of 34000Rs-37000Rs range. Every laptop has some
pros and cons.
At this price such specification with a highly portable, fast
performance and lightweight laptop is unacceptable but you have to compromise
with battery and display.
It is not like that battery and display are too bad but they are
average.
If you want a high performance non-gaming budget laptop then i would highly recommend you to go with this laptop.
